Frequently Asked Questions

🔥 What is the difference between an incense burner and charcoal incense?

A smoking censer works with a tea light and gently heats your incense over a sieve or a smoking plate. This makes the smoking mild, atmospheric, and wonderfully suitable for everyday use.

Incense charcoal produces significantly higher temperatures. This allows resins and herbs to develop more intensely, powerfully, and often smokier. This is particularly suitable for classic rituals, house clearings, or intensive smoking sessions.

🌿 Which incense is suitable for an incense burner?

An incense burner is wonderful for:

  • Incense resins such as frankincense, copal or myrrh
  • Incense herbs
  • Incense blends
  • fine incense woods

For most resins and incense blends, we recommend an incense screen; for herbs and fine herbal blends, often an incense plate, so that nothing falls through the screen or burns too quickly. Camphor, menthol, and very ethereal resins such as dammar or fresh copal are often the better choice on an incense plate. These liquefy quite quickly when heated and can drip through the screen – with an incense plate, you can burn them much more relaxed and safely.

💧 Why does frankincense drip on the incense screen?

Many resins soften when heated and can drip through the sieve. This is perfectly normal :) The larger your censer sieve, the better you can push your incense to the edge rather than directly over the flame – this allows you to play a little with the heat and incense more gently – drip-free.

Our Lichtbringer tip:
A little sand on the censer sieve slows down the melting and makes incensing much more relaxed.

🕯️ How far should the flame be from the screen?

The greater the distance between the tealight and the incense screen, the more gently your incense will be heated.

For a mild, atmospheric incense experience, we recommend larger distances. Especially with natural wax tealights, which often burn hotter, 7 cm or more is ideal.

✨ Are incense burners suitable for beginners?

Yes – absolutely.

Incense burners are one of the easiest ways to start burning incense:

  • no lighting of charcoal
  • no heavy smoke development
  • uncomplicated to use
  • ideal for everyday use, small rituals and gentle incense burning

A wonderful introduction to the world of incense 🌿
