Candles work with the element of fire; never leave them burning unattended and only use fireproof bases. For the first burn, it is best to let the candle burn until the entire top wax pool has melted to the edge. If the candle ever produces soot, it is advisable to trim the wick before lighting (carefully cut off the top, leaving at least 8 mm).
