MYRRH, the resin of the Arabian myrrh bush, is a traditional biblical incense (often in combination with frankincense) and was known as the "fragrance of the gods" in ancient times. Its scent, the scent of Mother Earth, is deeply spicy and reminds us of our connection to the earth. This helps us to root ourselves in times of confusion, to listen inwards, to arrive at ourselves. In ancient times, myrrh resin was a widely used remedy. Even today, the disinfecting and strengthening properties of myrrh are valued, for example, in toothpaste and the famous Swedish bitters.
It is advisable to break up the myrrh resin pieces with a mortar and grind them finer, which creates a finer, less acrid fragrance experience. Myrrh and frankincense are a classic incense pairing that go very well together. The ancient Egyptians already burned frankincense and myrrh in equal parts - myrrh for the earth, the feminine principle, frankincense for the sky, the masculine principle.
