PATCHOULI LEAVES have a very unique woody, tart-sweet scent that only intensifies with the fermentation of the dried leaves after harvesting. It embodies the earth that gives us strength and solid ground beneath our feet, as well as the lightness in the dance of the senses. For balance and trust, for sensual love, but also for finding peace.
Everyone probably knows the scent: earthy, sweet, heavy, woody and somehow "exotic". It is said to have accompanied Kashmir shawls as a moth repellent when they made their first journey from Kashmir (now India) to Europe, and became a symbol and characteristic scent of the hippie generation, the flower children. Patchouli, that is the scent of India. It is burned as incense in honor of Lord Buddha.
Patchouli is one of the mystery herbs that can strengthen intention and inner power in rituals. In India, it is burned in a ritual mixture at the feet of the deceased.
Patchouli leaves can be placed on a heat-insulating layer (e.g. sand) on the charcoal – then the flowers do not burn down as quickly. On an incense burner, a good distance from the candle is recommended.
