The TONKA BEAN, grown on a tropical tree in South America, stimulates the senses with its sweet, vanilla-like scent, brings a positive mood into every room, and can help to find inner peace. In its home country of South America, it is considered a magical ritual incense. Tonka beans are the seeds of the Tonka tree, which grows in South America and Africa.
Traditionally, the tonka bean is consecrated as a wishing bean and buried in the earth at a chosen spot, or carried as an amulet for luck, money, and love.
For incense burning, grate a few shavings from the bean with a (nutmeg) grater; this is an excellent ingredient for incense blends. Its scent is unmistakable, like a freshly mown summer meadow with a hint of almond and vanilla. Be careful when dosing, as tonka bean contains a lot of coumarin. Our tonka beans are not suitable for consumption.
