According to legend, this figure was a Zen monk named Pu-Tai, who wandered through China in the 10th century and made everyone happy with his laughter. He was therefore called the Laughing Master. Even today, he is revered in all Buddhist countries; he is considered a powerful bringer of good fortune. His generous laughter reminds us to continually invite joy and serenity into our lives. A ritual candle for all those to whom we sincerely wish happiness, for all those who need a little more joy in their lives.
