Ladybugs are probably the best-known good luck charms and the first flying heralds of spring. They protect children and heal the sick if the little beetle flies to them, according to popular belief. A symbol of spring awakening, of hope and confidence. A little beetle that brings joy...
By the way, these bright beetles got their name from the Virgin Mary. Ladybugs are avid destroyers of aphids and have therefore always been very popular with farmers and gardeners as diligent helpers (especially in pre-industrial times, when people were truly dependent on the harvest). If the beetles flew in, it was considered a sign of good luck - the devout farmers saw this as a gift from Mary and named the beetle after her. Another interpretation refers to the seven-spotted ladybugs, which are the most common among our native ladybugs: Since the number seven has always been considered a lucky number, this luck is transferred to the little beetle :)
