White Sage is a very popular incense herb here in Germany, originating from the sunny Southwest of America. The aromatic plant is traditionally used for smudging for purification, clarification, and protection. Its strong, spicy-herbal scent creates a special atmosphere and accompanies rituals, meditations, or the conscious cleansing of rooms and objects.
Traditionally, White Sage is burned as a "smudge stick" – hand-tied bundles of sage plant leaves and stems. As it smolders, the characteristic scent of white sage unfolds: intense, cleansing, and at the same time grounding.
White sage is an aromatic sage species from the American Southwest, traditionally used as incense. It is particularly popular for smudging for cleansing, clarification, and conscious new beginnings. Salvia apiana is its botanical name.
White sage is most commonly used as a smudge stick. To do this, you light the tip of the bundle until it starts to burn, wave out the flame, and let the leaves slowly smolder. With the smoldering smudge stick, you can then walk through your rooms, smudge ritual objects, or even yourself and other people. Hold a fireproof bowl underneath to catch glowing herbal residues. To extinguish it, you can stick the glowing tip into a bowl of sand, for example.
